Welcome to Tentors.org - A brand new discussion forum devoted to the Ten Tors event on Dartmoor in Devon, UK.

The fabulous Ten Tors event is currently held in May every year and takes place on Dartmoor in Devon.  It is open to young people aged 14 to 20 years and involves a two day expedition over the rugged and open terrain of the moors.

The event is hosted and administered by the UK Army.  It is coordinated by the Commander 43(Wessex) Brigade, based at Picton Parracks near Salisbury in Wiltshire.

The Aim of Ten Tors:

"To encourage young people to take part in a planned expedition over Dartmoor.

The event is not a competition but a challenging adventure that demands careful planning, imagination, endurance, skilful navigation and teamwork by the participants."

The Jubilee Challenge event is run alongside the Ten Tors expedition.  It offers a very real challenge to young disabled people from all walks of life.  They face the same tests of endurance, moral, fatigue and stamina of the longer event without the overnight camp.  It is held on the Saturday and many of the participants follow a route on wheel chairs or crutches.  They are escorted by more able bodied young people.  For many the Jubilee challenge is the most rewarding event they ever take part in.

This website is not the official site of Ten Tors.  It is designed to complement the official site and to provide an open and unbiased space to discuss all issues relating to the event.

This site is managed and designed by a group of like minded individuals who have either taken part in the event, help to manage teams or who have a passion for Ten Tors.  This website is strictly non profit making.  Any revenue generated through advertising etc will be used to maintain and upgrade the website.

We very much hope that a wide range of people connected with Ten Tors will use this site.  Its success depends upon the input from its users.  We are hoping to attract debate and views from current and ex participants, parents of participants, team managers, Dartmoor Rescue Group, The Armed Services, Dartmoor National Park Authority and local land owners.

We aim to open up a sensible debate on all aspects of the event.  Training, equipment, routes, safety, navigation, aims of the event, date and frequency of the event and the rules governing the expedition.

The Ten Tors event is unique within the UK, and probably the whole world.

Only the young people that take part can know the special feeling of crossing the finish line after walking many miles in rain, heat, fog and snow.

Only the team mangers can know the feeling of deep satisfaction when one of their teams comes in intact after many months of training.

Only parents can know the tearful sense of pride as their loved ones complete an expedition they will never forget.

Ten Tors is more popular than ever before, and it’s this popularity that creates so many issues for the event.
